Trump campaign, Biden trade “garbage” comments

The word “garbage” has been in political news headlines lately.

The first instance was during a Trump rally in New York City on Sunday night when a comedian, speaking onstage, said there was a floating island of garbage in the ocean called Puerto Rico. Many found the comment to be offensive to Puerto Rico and to the Latino community.

The Trump campaign said the joke does not reflect the views of Donald Trump. His vice presidential candidate, JD Vance, said we have to stop getting so offended.

President Biden said in remarks yesterday that the Puerto Rican people he knew in his home state were good, decent people and that the only garbage he saw were “his supporters,” apparently referring to those who were at the Trump rally. Many found the comment to be offensive to Republicans or Trump-supporters.

Today, Kamala Harris was asked about Biden’s comment. She said she doesn’t agree with the idea of criticizing people based on who they vote for, which shows she is distancing herself from Biden’s comment.

Trump, during a rally in Pennsylvania, said Biden’s “garbage” comment was terrible and is similar to when Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 campaign, called Trump supporters a basket of “deplorables.”

The rhetoric sure is getting heated with less than a week left before the election.

Paul Pelosi attacker sentenced to life in prison

David DePape, the man who broke into the home of Paul and Nancy Pelosi and attacked Paul with a hammer while looking for Nancy two years ago in San Francisco, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in a state trial. He was previously sentenced to 30 years in a federal trial.

The Pelosi family said the sentencing gives them some measure of legal justice and hopefully a message to others that political violence will not be tolerated.

Paul said he is still affected by the hammer blow to his head two years ago, including experiencing headaches and having trouble balancing, in addition to having psychological trauma.
