Israel and Hamas hostage deal

Israel and Hamas announced they have agreed to a two-phase deal to free hostages and stop fighting. The first phase is to free at least 50 Israeli women and children who were taken from south Israel during the October 7 attacks. Israel will release about 150 Palestinian prisoners who are also mostly women and children. This would happen over a four-day ceasefire and Israel will allow hundreds of aid trucks to enter Gaza from Egypt. For the second phase of the deal, Hamas could release more women, children, and elderly hostages and Israel said it would extend the pause in fighting for every 10 additional hostages. This deal was made possible with the help of the Qatari and Egyptian governments. The U.S. also helped to push for a deal.

The Israeli Cabinet approved the deal after about five hours of discussions. Israel said it is committed to bringing all hostages home and then will continue the war to destroy Hamas and make sure there can be no threat to Israel from Gaza.

Sam Altman to return to OpenAI

OpenAI, the company behind the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, said it has reached a deal to bring back Sam Altman as its CEO. He was fired last week by the company’s board and it caused a big controversy with over 500 employees threatening to quit. Now most of the board is ousted and replaced with new board members.

Deadly shooting over property dispute

A 45-year-old Colorado man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing three people on Monday over disputes about property lines. His name is Hanme Clark.

The victims were his neighbors, Robert and Beth Geers, and another person named James Dalton.

The shooting happened when there was a surveyor present. The surveyor managed to get away safely.

A part of the dispute is about one of the neighbors refusing to allow people to drive down a road on the property.

Police said they received calls from either side complaining about the other but they never imagined that it would end up like this.

Plane crashes into shopping center parking lot

In Plano, Texas, a pilot of a small plane crashed into a shopping center parking lot at about 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The pilot was tragically killed but nobody else on the ground was hurt. The plane crashed right outside a nail salon and a restaurant. The pilot may have become disoriented before the crash, possibly because of a health issue. The shopping center was near a small airport so the pilot may have been trying to land there. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

“Simple” man who died surprises town with $3.8M gift

A man named Geoffery Holt, who died on June 6, surprised his small town of Hinsdale, New Hampshire with a financial gift of $3.8 million. The gift was surprising because those who knew Holt had no idea about his wealth because he lived a simple life in a trailer park and would ride on his lawnmower to go to a store. What people didn’t know is that Holt had saved and invested the earnings he made earlier in his life. The money Holt gave means those in the community can apply annually for grants for up to $150,000 per year. A community leader said he didn’t think anyone knew that Holt was that successful and that it is a tremendous gift.

That is all the top stories for today. There will be no news on Thursday and Friday because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Have a nice week and I’ll see you next Monday. Stay with the light.
