USADSF not participating in 20th Winter Deaflympics
The USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) announced it would not participate in the 20th Winter Deaflympics in Erzurum, Turkiye in March 2024 due to the “persistent lack of timely and reliable information” about venues and schedules.
The USADSF Board said over the past seven months, it has been in frequent communication with the International Committee of Sports of the Deaf (ICSD) to make preparations for the 20th Winter Deaflympics but was unable to receive satisfactory responses to their questions. The USADSF said they made the decision to not participate after considering security and financial risks.
The USADSF’s decision to not participate comes after the Canadian Deaf Sports Association’s announcement on November 15 that it has withdrawn its participation in the Winter Deaflympics. They said the “current geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East has left us with limited choices.” The CDSA said other countries also decided to withdraw their national teams.

The Deaflympics/ICSD organization announced on November 2 that the 20th Winter Deaflympics would take place in Erzurum. That means those who wanted to participate in the competition would have only a few months to make all preparations, which is very difficult.
“The Daily Moth” has reached out to the Deaflympics/ICSD to ask how this would impact the Winter Deaflympics but we didn’t get an immediate response.
