[Advertisement from Deaf Law Center]: Announcing the New York Adult Survivors Act: Many survivors of sexual assault need time to process the hurt they’ve experienced; it might take years or even decades for a survivor to tell someone what happened to them. For years, our laws were out of step with that reality. Because of that, many survivors lost the opportunity to hold the person who hurt them accountable in court. Now, those survivors are getting a fighting chance. The Adult Survivors Act is a New York State law that creates a one-time, one-year look back window for adult sexual assault survivors who are outside the statute of limitations. That means that any adult survivor – no matter when they were assaulted and even if they are outside the statute of limitations – can file a civil case against their abuser or the institution that protected them, through November 24, 2023.

Former cop Kim Potter released from prison

Kim Potter, the former police officer in Minnesota who was convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop two years ago, was released from prison this morning.

Wright was pulled over because the car he was driving had an expired registration tab and there was an air freshener hanging in the rearview mirror. Potter found that Wright had a warrant and as she and other officers tried to arrest him, he broke free and went back in his car. Potter grabbed her gun and shot at him, killing him. Potter said she accidentally pulled out her gun as she meant to pull out her taser. This happened in the city of Brooklyn Center.

Potter was sentenced to 24 months in prison but had credit for time served. She will be on supervised release for the remaining third of her sentence.

Wright’s mother, Katie, said she is struggling to find peace and is angry that Potter can watch her two sons and touch them, while she cannot hold her son.

Tucker Carlson no longer with Fox News

Fox News announced today that its star host Tucker Carlson would be leaving the news channel. His last program was on Friday, so the announcement means Carlson never had the chance to say goodbye or explain where he’s going next.

It is not known the exact reason why Carlson is leaving, but this is happening after Fox News paid a $787 million settlement to Dominion Voting Systems and admitted that it aired false information about the election being rigged. Carlson was supposed to be one of the first witnesses to testify in a trial that never took place because of the settlement.

Fox News said it would rotate Fox News personalities in Carlson’s 8 pm slot until a new host is named.
