Floor collapse at the Alabama Deaf Institute injures two employees
Renca Dunn, Daily Moth Reporter:
This recent Wednesday morning on January 12, two employees of Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) were brought to the hospital after a floor of an outdoor porch collapsed on Alabama School for the Deaf campus.

No students or teachers were hurt. We reached out to AIDB for their response. Here is what they shared with us. There were two employees working outside on a covered porch that is right out of the Teague Student Center on Alabama School for the Deaf campus. There was a boom lift and the floor underneath the boom lift collapsed.

AIDB mentioned that they are grateful that the school staff and nurse were quick to respond to the scene. The Talladega Fire and Rescue and the Talladega Police Department immediately came to help.
Right now AIDB is working on finding what caused this to happen and will do building inspections and repairs to make sure the building is safe before moving forward.
We also have a comment from the President of AIDB, Dr. John Mascia. I will sign what he said, “We’re thankful for the work of our first responders, and we know the employees are getting great care. We are praying for a quick and full recovery for them. Thank God no children were hurt and that no one else was hurt. That’s our first concern. The next step is to find out exactly what happened and why, and to make sure the building is safe and secure going forward.”
We want to thank AIDB for their comment and we send our thoughts to the two employees who got hurt to recover as soon as possible.
