Deaf News Briefs: Deaf Brooklyn man attacked on street; Deaf teenager attacked during sleepover

Here are two Deaf News Briefs.

The New York Daily News did an article that said police are looking for a woman who poured boiling water on a 41-year-old deaf man and then stabbed him. Police believe that the woman was angry because the deaf man couldn't understand what she was saying. This happened on September 2 in Brooklyn. The deaf man's identity is unknown.

The article said he was sitting on a bench when the woman approached him and spoke something to him. Then the woman became angry, stepped away, and returned with a cup of boiling water and threw it in his face and then stabbed him in the chest and then left.

The deaf man was taken to a hospital. We hope he is recovering all right.

Police released an image of the suspect and said if anyone knows who she is, to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers.

NBC 5 News in Dallas reported that a deaf high school student at Millsap High School was bullied and beaten during a sleepover with friends on September 25. The student's name is Trent Irwin, a senior.

His father said when Trent was asleep, other teens decided to mess around with him and posted videos on social media. His father said the videos showed teens slapping Trent's head and that when he tried to defend himself, one of the teenagers started punching him, causing facial injuries. The father explained that Trent wears a cochlear implant and removes his processor at night, so he is completely deaf without it.

The family went to the police and on Thursday it was announced that a 17-year-old was arrested. Trent's parents are considering taking this case to civil court to hold adults accountable.

Our hearts are with you, Trent, and we hope you are recovering day by day.

That's the two Deaf News briefs for today.
