Baton Rouge cop arrested over crash that killed deaf man
CBS News reported that a Baton Rouge Police Department officer who allegedly crashed into a deaf motorist on October 20 and killed him, was arrested on October 31 and charged with negligent homicide and other related charges.
The deaf motorist’s name was Caleb Chappetta (38). The officer’s name is Sharmaine Buckley (28).
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Buckley ran the traffic signal in her patrol vehicle. CBS News said she allegedly ran a red light while going 79 miles per hour while responding to an emergency call. Chappetta was crossing an intersection when Buckey crashed into him.
Buckey was held on a bail of $1.6 million and bonded out. She is now on administrative leave.

The Louisiana Association of the Deaf posted on Facebook that they are mourning the “tragic and unnecessary death of Caleb Chappetta.”
There was a memorial service for Chappetta on Saturday. There are many tributes on social media by those who knew him.
