Charges against Alec Baldwin dropped

Prosecutors in New Mexico announced they would drop charges against Alec Baldwin, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter after he accidentally shot and killed a cinematographer with a prop gun during filming for a movie called “Rust.” The cinematographer’s name was Halyna Hutchins and she was 42.

Baldwin was charged less than three months ago. Prosecutors said they made the decision to drop the charges after “new facts” surfaced that require additional investigation and forensic analysis. The prosecutors did not describe what the “new facts” were, but news reports said the prop gun was modified. Prosecutors said they did not have enough time to investigate.

However, prosecutors said criminal charges against the film’s armorer — the person responsible for handling guns and ammunition on the film set — remain unchanged.

The film recently resumed production in Montana and Baldwin was on the set.

Neighbor shot 6-year-old girl after ball rolled into his yard

A North Carolina man who is a suspect in the shooting of his 6-year-old neighbor and her parents on Tuesday was arrested in Florida yesterday.

CNN explained that the suspect, Robert Singletary, became angry after he saw the girl walking in his yard to get a basketball that rolled into his yard. He yelled at the girl and the girl told her father. The father went to Singletary’s house and confronted him. Singletary then shot at the 6-year-old girl and her parents, wounding them.

The girl, Kinsley White, was hit in the cheek. Her mother’s elbow was grazed by a bullet and the father was shot in the back. The girl and the mother will be okay, but the father remains hospitalized.

Singletary fled the scene and there was a manhunt that ended when he turned himself into police in the Tampa area. He is expected to be extradited back to North Carolina to face criminal charges.

CNN explained that in December, he was charged with assault and kidnapping for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a large hammer and keeping her inside his apartment for over two hours. He was released on a $250,000 bond on December 15.

Neighbors said Singletary moved into his house only a few weeks ago and often yelled at kids for being in his yard.

[Advertisement from Deaf Law Center]: Announcing the New York Adult Survivors Act: Many survivors of sexual assault need time to process the hurt they’ve experienced; it might take years or even decades for a survivor to tell someone what happened to them. For years, our laws were out of step with that reality. Because of that, many survivors lost the opportunity to hold the person who hurt them accountable in court. Now, those survivors are getting a fighting chance. The Adult Survivors Act is a New York State law that creates a one-time, one-year look back window for adult sexual assault survivors who are outside the statute of limitations. That means that any adult survivor – no matter when they were assaulted and even if they are outside the statute of limitations – can file a civil case against their abuser or the institution that protected them, through November 24, 2023.

Woman charged with hate crime after stabbing Asian student

In Indiana, a 56-year-old woman named Billie Davis was charged with a federal hate crime for allegedly stabbing an Asian female college student on a public transit bus.

The incident was on January 11 of this year. The victim was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington.

The Department of Justice said the victim was on a public bus and as she stood up to exit the bus, she was stabbed multiple times in the head.

Law enforcement said camera footage from inside the bus showed that the suspect and the victim never talked or interacted with each other prior to the attack.

Davis fled the scene, but another passenger followed her and helped officers find her. She told police that she attacked the Asian woman because it would be “one less person to blow up our country.” She was charged by local authorities with attempted murder and now she is indicted by a federal grand jury with a hate crime charge.

The Russian military admitted in a statement that the bombing was accidental and said it would investigate.

Louisville shooter left note on ease of buying guns

News reports said the shooter who killed five co-workers at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky on April 10 left behind two notes, one that was found on his body after police killed him and the second at his home.

The shooter said in the notes that a part of his goal was to show how easy it is in America for someone who is dealing with a serious mental illness to buy an assault-style weapon.

The shooter, Connor Sturgeon, purchased his AR-15-style rifle only one week before carrying out the shooting. His family previously said they knew that he struggled with depression, but did not see any signs that he was planning to carry out an attack.
