WFD fundraising for Deaf Gazans; Herb Larson passes away
Here are two Deaf News briefs.
WFD raising money for Deaf Palestinians in Gaza
The first is that The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) has provided several brief updates about the situation in Gaza for Deaf Palestinians and is trying to raise money for food.
A representative from the Palestinian Union for Deaf, Mohammad Nazzal, told WFD President Joseph Murray that “there were frequent attacks where deaf people were dying and being arrested.”
Nazzal said Deaf people did not get information in sign language from their government and had to rely on hearing people to understand what was going on.
He also said Deaf people are the last to know where there are food locations and are struggling with food insecurity.
The WFD is asking for donations to their GoFundMe to get food to Deaf Palestinians. If you’d like to see their videos and the link to the GoFundMe, it’s in the description and transcript.

GLAD’s sad announcement that Herb Larson passed away
The second news is a sad announcement from the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness (GLAD) that Herb Larson, a longtime Deaf leader in California, passed away.
GLAD explained that he was the Director of the National Center on Deafness (NCOD) at California State University, Northridge from 1979 until he retired in 1998.
Larson was the host of a show called “Off Hand” where he worked with the late Lou Fant in interviewing prominent people in the Hollywood area. It was broadcast on Channel 9 in Los Angeles in the 1980s.
GLAD’s CEO, Dr. Patricia Hughes, said Larson was an important leader within the organization for many years, serving on its board from 1992 until 2004.
GLAD said they would like to offer the Larson family their sincerest sympathies.
