In New Jersey, a 45-year-old man named Edward Cagney Mathews was seen in a video shouting and bumping up his body against a Black neighbor. This was on Friday. News reports said Edward called the neighbor the n-word and said “It’s not Africa” and then turned towards the person filming him and gave his home address and challenged people to visit his home.
There was a police officer on the scene, but he didn’t make an arrest.
Three days later, on Monday, there was a crowd of protesters who did visit his home with chants of “We want Edward!” There were about 100 people outside of his home. Police said Edward is facing charges of assault, harassment, and biased intimidation. There is criticism against the police for not arresting him three days earlier.
