Neat. Shelly the crab is a “deaf sister” to Ramona the crab.

The film is available to rent on Amazon Prime, YouTube Movies & TV, or other places.

A Deaf creative expert, Braam Jordaan, worked behind the scenes with Paramount Animation as an animation consultant on this specific scene and also consulted on the overall film. Check out this clip.

Jordaan said actress Shoshannah Stern provided the “signover” (not voiceover). She provided a video of her signing out the lines and Jordaan worked on the animation technology and the framing.

Braam said the film’s director, David Soren, was a wonderful supporter of Deaf people.

He said there was another Deaf person from Denmark, Soren Sparre, that worked on this project as well.

Braam said it was a challenge to create the animation because the crabs didn’t have human hands, but the crab’s claw movements and facial movements made it clear what they’re trying to say.
