Hurricane Milton forces 1 million under evacuation orders

Hurricane Milton went from a Category 5 storm to a Category 4 overnight, but forecasters expect it to intensify again into a Category 5 today. Its landfall on western Florida may happen between 10:00 p.m. to 2 a.m. tomorrow night into Thursday morning. Forecasters said Milton will remain at hurricane strength as it crosses Florida. One of the greatest threats from Milton is a potential storm surge of 10 to 15 feet south of where the hurricane’s eye makes landfall. Tampa Bay, Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice are at risk for storm surge. There will be 5 to 12 inches of rain impacting Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach and the surrounding communities. There are many people evacuating from western Florida. About 1 million people are under mandatory evacuation orders. Tampa’s mayor warned that if locals refused to obey evacuation orders, they would die. Milton is the strongest hurricane of this season so far.

Report: Trump in close contact with Putin

Journalist and author Bob Woodward reported that Donald Trump has secretly spoken with Russian President Putin at least seven times after Trump’s first term ended. The report said Trump was talking with Putin at the same time he was pressuring Republicans to block military aid to Ukraine in their defense against Russia’s invasion. This information is in the forthcoming book, “War,” which will come out next week. Another report is that Trump, in 2020, sent Putin several Covid-19 test kits. Trump’s representatives said these reports are made-up and called Woodward a sleazebag.

Kamala Harris interviewed by 60 Minutes

Kamala Harris recently did an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Here are a few highlights.

Harris said she refuses to individually meet with Russian Putin to negotiate a solution to end the war in Ukraine. Harris said Ukraine must be involved in any negotiations.

Harris did not answer a question on whether the Biden administration should have done more to prevent migrant surges at the southern border. Harris said Congress needs to fix this problem.

Harris was asked about her running mate Tim Walz’s history of making misleading statements. Harris said Walz was only expressing emotion and getting dates wrong, but he’s not a “pathological liar like Donald Trump.” Harris said she did tell Walz to be more careful with his words.

Harris said she has a Glock firearm and she’s had it for some time. She said her background is in law enforcement (she was a prosecutor).
