Washington Post controversy over no endorsements
There is a controversy surrounding The Washington Post because its owner, billionaire Jeff Bezos, decided to end the newspaper’s tradition of endorsing presidential candidates. The Post’s editorial board, composed of 10 members, planned to endorse Kamala Harris. After Bezos’ decision to stop the endorsement, three board members resigned. Bezos said he believes that presidential endorsements do nothing to affect the election and brings a negative perception of bias and non-independence. Many subscribers decided to cancel in protest. NPR said more than 200,000 people canceled and that accounts for about 8% of the paper’s paid circulation of about 2.5 million subscribers.
