Chinese Olympics doping controversy
The Chinese swimming team has won at least 12 medals in Paris but their image is tainted by previous news reports that said many Chinese swimmers tested positive for banned substances (performance-enhancing drugs) before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but they were allowed to compete after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accepted Chinese officials’ defense that the swimmers consumed food that was contaminated. 11 of these swimmers competed in Paris. There have been more reports surfacing about Chinese swimmers and doping. Now several U.S. Olympian swimmers and others from other countries are speaking out and saying China is not playing fair. Michael Phelps recently said he believes that if an athlete tests positive for doping, they should be banned from the Olympics. So far, the Chinese swimming team has defended themselves from doping reports and said they felt like they were looked down upon despite their successes.

Ohio man sentenced to life for killing three sons
A man from Ohio was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for shooting and killing his three sons at their home last year. His name is Chad Doerman (33). The boys were 7, 4, and 3.
AP News explained that Chad was arrested last year after police found him sitting in front of his home with a rifle after the killings. Chad said he planned everything.
Prosecutors said Chad killed the three boys in front of their mother and sister. He then carried their bodies and laid them next to each other in the backyard.
Chad’s defense attorneys said he was struggling with a severe mental illness.
Prosecutors agreed to stop pursuing the death penalty in exchange for Chad’s guilty pleas. Prosecutors said they may never understand the motive behind the shooting.
The children’s mother, Laura, said she believes that Chad’s life imprisonment is what is the best for her family and that no punishment will ever bring her boys back. She said her grief will never go away.

Unrest in U.K. after mass stabbing
There has been unrest in England and anti-immigration protests in the days after a mass stabbing at a dance workshop killed three young girls aged 6, 7, and 9 and injured several other girls and two adults.
The suspect is a 17-year-old teenager named Axel Rudakubana. He was born in the U.K. and his parents are immigrants from Rwanda. He was arrested at the dance workshop and charged with three counts of murder. He will turn 18 tomorrow. It is not known what his motive was and police said it’s not terror-related.
After the stabbing incident last week, police did not immediately release information about the suspect due to his age. There was misinformation on social media about the attacker and that he was an immigrant or a Muslim. It sparked riots that damaged a mosque not long after the knife attack. Since then, there have been increasing numbers of anti-immigrant and Islamophobic riots that are very violent.
