Georgia school shooting updates
Here are updates on yesterday’s high school shooting at the Apalachee High School in Georgia.
Two students and two teachers were tragically killed. The students were both 14 years old. Their first names were Christian and Mason. The two teachers who died were 53 years old and 39 years old.
The suspected shooter is a 14-year-old student, Colt Gray. He was arrested yesterday and will make his first court appearance on Friday morning to face four charges of murder. He will be tried as an adult.
The shooter used an AR-15 type rifle and there is an investigation into how he obtained the weapon and brought it to school. Colt’s father said he had hunting rifles in the home.
CNN reported that authorities searching Colt’s home found documents that Colt may have written that referenced past school shootings. Police also investigated Colt last year after someone sent in a tip that he wrote on a social media platform to shoot up a middle school, but the investigation was closed because police couldn’t find any evidence that it was Colt who wrote the threat.
Schools in the Winder, Georgia area will be closed the rest of the week to allow the community to mourn and recover from the tragedy.
