Top News Briefs: Megan Rapinoe endorses Sen. Warren; “Penis fish” washes up on beach, Danny Aiello passes away at 86
Here are three top news briefs.
The first - Megan Rapinoe, a two time World Cup champion for the US Women’s National Team and an activist, has endorsed Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president in 2020.
Rapinoe tweeted her support for Sen. Warren and shared a video of her talking to Sen. Warren through their personal phones. On the twitter video it seems that Sen. Warren called Rapinoe to thank her for her endorsement. Rapinoe ended the video with saying “Team Warren.” The link to the twitter post of the video is in the transcript.
Rapinoe was just named Sports Illustrated’s 2019 Sportsperson of the Year and has been one of the leading soccer players in the fight for equal pay.
The second news brief -- thousands of ‘penis fish’ washed up on the shores of Drakes Beach which is 50 miles north of San Francisco.
These creatures are fat innkeeper worms, but widely known as ‘penis fish.’ They burrow and live in sand and mud. Their role is basically to provide lodging for other creatures in the mud/sand like pea crabs, goby fish, etc.
It seems that the recent storm in Northern California caused some strong waves to push these fat innkeeper worms to be exposed on the surface. The Bay Nature magazine mentioned that the next time you go to the beach, just think about these creatures wiggling around just a few feet under the sand.
The third brief -- Danny Aiello, known for his role in movies such as “The Godfather: Part II” and “Do the Right Thing” has passed away at a hospital in New Jersey at the age of 86. The details for the cause of his death have not been provided.
The Washington Post mentioned that he was raised in poverty during the Depression. Aiello grew up in the Bronx with six siblings, learned to hustle for work at the age of 6, was a high school drop out, was a gang member, and a pool shark.
He became a bouncer at an improv comedy club that provided his entry into acting.
Spike Lee, director of “Do the Right Thing” told LA Times that most actors go to Juilliard or acting school, but not Aiello. He has been “out there” and had a lot of experiences. People say that he will be missed.
That’s all for now. Have a great weekend and see you later. Stay with the light.
