We have two quick Deaf News briefs.

The first one is Shaylee Mansfield, a young Deaf actress known for her role in the movies “Feel the Beat” and “Noelle,” is part of a TV show named “The Company You Keep” on ABC channel. Shaylee will appear in 7 out of 10 episodes. She plays the character named Ollie, who is Birdie’s daughter and the character Birdie is played by Sarah Wayne Callies.

“The Company You Keep” is a crime drama series that follows the story of a con man named Charlie and an undercover CIA officer named Emma. A night of passion starts to stir love between the two but did not know that their professional jobs ended up colliding together. Based on the TV show’s synopsis of characters, Ollie (played by Shaylee) is Charlie’s (the con man’s) niece, and she is wise beyond her years. She is very close with Charlie and he takes ASL classes at night with Birdie (Ollie’s mom). Ollie is a quick learner and understands more than what people realize. That’s the character synopsis.

Keivonn Woodard meets NHL star

The second deaf news brief is Keivonn Woodard (10), a young Black deaf actor, who is known for his role in the HBO series “The Last of Us” met a famous hockey player Alex Ovechkin, known as “Ovi” from the Washington Capitals.

A video was posted of Keivonn going in the locker room and he was so surprised when he got to meet Ovi in person. That video on Twitter has over 1.5 million views. It was Keivonn’s dream come true to meet his hockey hero. The both of them got to sit down for a moment and Keivonn showed Ovi how to sign his nickname.

The Washington Capitals tweeted a video of Keivonn introducing himself and cheering for the Capitals team. Keivonn plays hockey as a forward on the Bowie Bruins team and he said that he wants to become the first Black deaf professional hockey player.
