Hunter Biden indicted on federal gun charges

Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, was indicted by a federal grand jury with three felony counts related to his purchase of a gun in October 2018.

The indictment said Hunter knowingly made a false statement on a form when buying a gun that he was not an unlawful user of any narcotic drugs. Hunter was allegedly addicted to crack cocaine at the time. The charges involve false statements and gun possession while addicted to drugs.

CBS News said the indictment comes after a deal fell apart in July between the government and Hunter’s attorneys over taxes and firearms charges. A special counsel named David Weiss was appointed last month and now Hunter is charged.

Hunter faces prison time and fines if he is convicted.

Mitt Romney won’t run for reelection in 2024

Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney announced he will not run for re-election in 2024. Romney said it would be the end of his 25-year political career.

Romney ran for the presidency as the Republican nominee in 2012 and was the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.

Romney is 76 years old and said it is time for a new generation of leaders.

He is one of the few Republicans who are willing to speak out against Donald Trump, calling him a “fraud” and voted twice to convict Trump during both of his impeachment trials.

Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Romney’s retirement is “fantastic news for America.”

Federal judge declares DACA illegal

A federal judge made a ruling yesterday that the DACA program, which prevents the deportation of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. when they were children, is illegal in its current revised version.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen said DACA has legal issues and that they should be resolved by Congress, that “the Executive Branch cannot usurp the power bestowed on Congress by the Constitution.”

News analysts said the judge’s ruling means the DACA program will be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court to decide its fate for a third time.

Judge severs Trump from Georgia trial in October

ABC News reported that the judge overseeing the Georgia case where Donald Trump and 18 others face criminal charges of interfering with the 2020 election has severed Trump and 16 other defendants from the speedy trial that will be granted to two defendants, Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell. Their trial will start on October 23.

Chesebro is accused of coming up with a strategy to use “alternate electors” to prevent Joe Biden from receiving 270 electoral votes. Powell is accused of election fraud by encouraging others to tamper with ballot machines inside an elections office in Coffee County.

The prosecutor in the case, District Attorney Fani Willis, wanted all 19 defendants to be tried together, but Chesebro and Powell requested to use their right to a speedy trial.

Trump and the other defendants waived their rights to a speedy trial.

The judge said it is possible that more of the defendants will be split up.

Balado looked at the man, told him that she was working, and continued the report. The host asked the cameraman to show the man’s face. Police eventually arrested the man for sexual assault.

Greenland cruise ship freed from mud

On Monday, a luxury cruise ship in Greenland became stuck in the mud underneath the water near the Northeast Greenland National Park. There are just over 200 passengers and crew on the ship and nobody was injured.

Today it was finally freed by a pull from a Greenland government-owned trawler. Now the ship will go to a port where workers will look at whether there are any damages to the bottom of the vessel.

Some passengers contracted the coronavirus, but one of them said although it was frustrating, they enjoyed the beautiful views of a glacier.
