Robert Godbold sentenced to 20 years
Robert Godbold, a former teacher and coach at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind (AIDB), was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child who was a student at AIDB.
Al.com news explained in an article that Godbold pleaded guilty to “sodomy and sexual act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student.”
“The Daily Moth” previously reported that Godbold was arrested in January on the suspicion that he sexually abused a boy in at least two incidents at Godbold’s home.
Godbold was a teacher at AIDB since 2019. AIDB previously said it received a report from a victim in September 2022 that Godbold was abusing him.
AIDB said it immediately placed Godbold on administrative leave and reported the possible abuse to the City of Talladega Police Department. After Godbold was arrested in January, he was no longer an employee at AIDB.
Now — Godbold’s guilty plea means the case never went to trial because he admitted to committing this crime and received a more lenient (reduced) sentence of 20 years.
