October 10 top stories
It is October 10. Here are today’s top stories.
Biden interviewed by special counsel
The White House said President Biden participated in a voluntary interview with special counsel Robert Hur, who is investigating classified documents found in his home and private office. The interviews were conducted at the White House on Sunday and Monday.
The White House said Biden has, from the beginning, cooperated with the investigation.
The classified documents were found in November 2022 at Biden’s former office in D.C. and at his home in Delaware. There were about 25 documents.
Former President Donald Trump has his own classified documents situation. He was criminally charged after investigators found hundreds of documents at his Mar-a-Lago home and accused him of trying to obstruct the government’s investigation.
Person fatally shot after crashing into Chinese consulate
On Monday in San Francisco, a person crashed a vehicle into the lobby of the Chinese consulate. Police officers shot the person and they were pronounced dead at a hospital.
A witness who was at the consulate to get his visa documents processed said the car crashed into the building at a high speed and the driver got out shouting, “Where is CCP?” CCP may stand for the Chinese Communist Party. The driver then fought with security guards before police arrived and opened fire.
The identity of the driver has not been released.
Texas has bussed 50,000 migrants to major cities
Axios reported that Texas has bussed more than 50,000 migrants from the border to major U.S. cities across the country.
A graphic shows that 18,500 migrants were sent to New York City, 13,500 to Chicago, 12,500 to D.C., and others sent to Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles.
Axios said the “state-sponsored initiative has accelerated the movement of migrants and asylum seekers north, strained destination cities’ shelter resources and prompted their Democratic leaders to dramatically increase pressure on President Biden to help.”
RFK Jr. to run as independent
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced yesterday that he is dropping his bid to run for the presidency as a Democrat and will now run as an independent candidate in 2024.
Axios said Kennedy could “play spoiler in a close 2024 contest between President Biden and former President Trump.”
Kennedy Jr. is the son of Robert F. Kennedy. Although he comes from a family of Democratic politicians, he has conservative viewpoints and has support from conservative-aligned people. Two examples are that Kennedy Jr. has been outspoken against vaccines and the U.S.'s support of Ukraine.

Updates on Israel-Hamas war
Here are updates on the Israel-Hamas war. About 1,000 people in Israel were killed in the Hamas attacks.
The Israeli military said they are continuing to bomb targets where they believe Hamas militants are using. It has bombed about 200 targets in Gaza overnight.
There are many news images and videos showing areas in Gaza reduced to rubble from powerful Israeli bombs. About 830 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli airstrikes. Three Palestinian journalists were killed by an Israeli airstrike.
Israel’s military said it has regained control over towns near the border with Gaza and that it found about 1,500 bodies of Hamas gunmen in Israel.
CNN reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, in a phone call with U.S. President Biden, said he may order Israeli forces to go into Gaza. Biden did not warn him against doing this — which is unlike previous approaches the U.S. has taken, which is usually to encourage a ceasefire.
President Biden will give an address this afternoon about the situation in Israel.
Today hundreds of rockets from Hamas flew towards the Israeli city of Ashkelon.
The U.N.’s human rights chief said he is concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling on all parties to stop attacking civilians or attacks expected to cause death or injury to civilians.
The U.S. government said at least 11 Americans were killed in Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel. President Biden said on Monday that it is likely that American citizens may be among those being held by Hamas. Biden said his team is working with Israel on the “hostage crisis.”
CNN reported that more than 100 bodies have been found in the Israeli kibbutz (small farming community) of Be’eri, which is near Gaza. Heavily armed Hamas terrorists entered the area on motorbikes after breaching a border wall. Survivors said the gunmen shot and killed civilians on sight or kidnapped them. Most of the bodies discovered were local residents but some were of Israeli security forces.
Be’eri is about three miles away from where the music festival was going on. Over 260 bodies were found there — these people were killed in a similar way by Hamas terrorists and many others were taken hostage.
The Israeli government believes that about 1,000 Hamas gunmen swarmed the area.
Many international leaders believe that Iran and its government provided support to Hamas but Iran’s supreme leader denied providing any support.
The U.S. and Israeli governments said they don’t have direct evidence that Iran provided support for Hamas prior to the attack but said Iran has provided Hamas with weapons and trained its forces in the past.
That’s all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light.
