Sports Illustrated accused of publishing AI-written articles
Sports Illustrated (SI), the well-known sports magazine and website, was accused of publishing artificial intelligence-generated articles under fake author names and images.
Futurism reported that SI apparently purchased an AI-generated headshot of a fake person named Drew Ortiz and presented him as an employee. The content “made” by Ortiz was deleted after the report.
The SI Union said staff were horrified by this allegation. The union said this violates everything they believe in about journalism.
The magazine’s owner, Arena Group, said Futurism’s report is not accurate but they are looking into the matter.
Indian national charged with trying to assassinate American
The Department of Justice announced it charged an Indian national who works for the Indian government with trying to assassinate a U.S. citizen in New York who is a leader who has advocated for a separate state for Sikhs in India.
This means that the U.S. government believes the Indian government tried to kill an American over his political ideas.
Nikhil Gupta was charged with murder-for-hire after he allegedly orchestrated a $100,000 payment for someone to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who runs the organization “Sikhs for Justice.”
This situation is similar to what happened in Canada earlier this year — the Canadian government accused the Indian government of being behind the killing of a Sikh community leader in Canada.
Axios said the allegations may strain relations between the U.S. and India.

CNBC reported that the U.S. economy — its gross domestic product (GDP) — grew by 5.2% in the third quarter. The GDP is a measure of all goods and services produced.
