NCAA approves AT&T 5G helmet for Gallaudet

AT&T and Gallaudet University announced that the NCAA has given full approval for the university’s football team to use a special helmet that has a digital display for communication between coaches and players. This helmet is called the AT&T 5G Helmet. It works by a coach using a tablet to select a play and it will show up on the helmet’s digital display. It was used in one game last year and now it can be used for all games this year. Gallaudet’s coach Chuck Goldstein told AP News that they hope to start using the technology for its home game on September 28. AP said Gallaudet getting approval for the helmet in Division III play comes just as audio helmet communication has gone into effect at the Division I level.
