Men’s ice hockey: USA vs Russia

Alex: USA and Russia played a hockey game and USA won 7-3. The first period was scoreless. Many were nervous as it was a hot game, but by the second period, within the first minute, USA scored a goal. The lead went up. Russia did score three times, but USA would score to stay ahead.

There was a fight and emotions ran high.

One U.S. player was seriously injured when he slid and banged his head. It required five stitches.

The two (teams) have a serious rivalry because Russia defeated USA during the 2015 Winter Deaflympics in Sochi, Russia. Also, the USA has not defeated Russia in the Deaflympics for about 20 years. So it was a revenge match for USA.

Alex: In the first period, you were tied 0-0. What changed during the second period with the scoring onslaught?

Garrett Gintoli: During the first period, we had opportunities but couldn’t score. During the second period, we finally scored on some opportunities. We were ready.

Alex: Do you feel like you got your revenge for losing the 2015 Deaflympics?

Troy Benson: Oh yeah, definitely.

Alex: The match ended 7-3.

Now I will show you what happened with the U.S. men’s chess team.

Callie Frye: This is a chess competition where two countries play against each other in a 4-on-4 match. USA is now playing Brazil. We’ll see who wins and what it looks like.

Byron Bridges: We played in a team competition against Brazil. They sent three players. There was no opponent for me, so I automatically won. It is now a three-on-three.

Callie: You’re from Brazil.

Antonio: Yes.

Callie: How many years have you been training with chess?

Antonio: Ever since I was small. 25 years.

Callie: You made good moves. You’re enjoying it?

Antonio: I enjoy being in Italy. I’m happy.

Callie: I’m happy to talk with you.

Antonio: Thank you.

Branton Stewart: There are 15 teams. When we win, which is more likely, we’ll move towards the other team that wins, while the other loser moves the opposite side. So I’m looking to see who I will play against.

[Text: Hi Oscar, congratulations on winning the game. Can you tell me what happened?]

[Text: Oscar Petrov: We both started the opening pretty strong and pretty comfortably. I could tell my opponent was well-prepared for the first 15 or so moves of the game. But eventually he slipped under pressure a bit and I was able to infiltrate his space with my Queen. Shortly after, I exchanged some pieces with him for my benefit in order to play a very easy endgame for me… from then, it was easy for me to maneuver my pieces to the good squares and then take control from there until; eventually, I was able to consolidate the win.]

Alex: The team defeated Brazil 4-0. They had another game this afternoon against Bosnia and Herzegovina, They had an opportunity to tie, but lost 2.5 points to 1.5.

Next is the U.S. men’s alpine skiing team.

The three athletes rode down the Giant Slalom. Out of the three, one finished both runs and was in the 26th place.

For the two other skiers, one flew out and the other crashed.

The U.S. men’s curling team defeated Japan today 9-4.

The team went to the hockey match today and filmed their comments.

Callie Frye: What are you looking forward for the next game?

Herman Fuechtmann: The game tomorrow is our last name, against Hungary. We have almost the same record. It’s important that we beat them so we can go up a seed. We’ll see our rankings.

Alex: USA has not yet received a medal, but there are high expectations for tomorrow’s Slopestyle snowboarding event. I will be there tomorrow to film it. Now I will teach you the Italian sign for “good luck.” Buona fortuna. Buona fortuna to the U.S. athletes. That’s all today. Good night!
