Drone strike kills American contractor in Syria

On Thursday, an American contractor working with the U.S. military in northeast Syria was killed in a drone strike. Five soldiers were injured.

The Pentagon said the drone was of Iranian origin.

The Secretary of Defense Austin said he, at the direction of President Biden, ordered airstrikes against facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s armed forces.

Today the Pentagon said there were 10 rockets fired on a U.S. base in eastern Syria, but there was no damage or injuries.

Trump attorney testifies before federal grand jury

CBS News said Evan Corcoran, an attorney for Donald Trump, testified for over three hours before a federal grand jury convened by special counsel Jack Smith, who is investigating the potential mishandling of classified documents.

Corcoran did appear before a grand jury before but did not answer certain questions about his communications with Trump because he claimed he had attorney-client privilege. But federal judges recently ruled that there was evidence that Trump misled his lawyers and Corcoran couldn’t use attorney-client privilege anymore.

Jack Smith and his team are looking at potential obstruction of justice and mishandling of national security information.

In separate news, Trump posted a warning on his Truth Social platform that there would be “death and destruction” if he is charged with crimes in New York. He also posted a link that showed an image of Trump holding a baseball bat next to an image of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

16-year-old sentenced to life over fatal stabbing

In Florida, a judge sentenced a 16-year-old boy named Aiden Fucci to life in prison for stabbing a 13-year-old girl to death in 2021. Her name was Tristyn Bailey.

The two were classmates. Fucci was 14 at the time of the attack, which happened in a wooded area near where the teenagers lived in area near Jacksonville. The girl was stabbed at least 114 times.

The judge said he thinks this case is the most difficult and shocking case that the county has dealt with.

CBS News said Fucci’s case may be reviewed in 25 years. He is not eligible for the death penalty because of his young age at the time of the murder.

[Advertisement from Deaf Law Center]:

Announcing the New York Adult Survivors Act: Many survivors of sexual assault need time to process the hurt they’ve experienced; it might take years or even decades for a survivor to tell someone what happened to them. For years, our laws were out of step with that reality. Because of that, many survivors lost the opportunity to hold the person who hurt them accountable in court. Now, those survivors are getting a fighting chance. The Adult Survivors Act is a New York State law that creates a one-time, one-year look back window for adult sexual assault survivors who are outside the statute of limitations. That means that any adult survivor – no matter when they were assaulted and even if they are outside the statute of limitations – can file a civil case against their abuser or the institution that protected them, through November 24, 2023.
