Damaging rainfall hits Vermont and New York

Weather.com said heavy rainfall in parts of New York and Vermont has caused roads to be washed out, residents to be evacuated, and killed at least one person. Many roads are closed due to flooding.

Vermont Gov. Scott said there are at least 14 swift water rescue teams working across the state. About 20 people have been rescued. Almost the entire state of Vermont is covered by flash flood warnings. Some areas in New York received more than 8 inches of rain in a 24-hour period of time.

New York Gov. Hochul said residents should think about their escape route if their homes happen to be impacted by floodwaters. She said this is “the new normal” and that we have to be prepared for the worst because the worst continues to happen.

News images show collapsed roadways and overturned vehicles and flooded city centers. The one person who died from the storms is a woman who was trying to walk away from her flooded home with her dog but was swept up by rushing water.

Threads social media app

On Wednesday, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, launched a new social media app called “Threads.” It is considered a competitor to Twitter because it has a similar setup with a feed of mostly text-based posts. The app is already at about 100 million users.

Those who have an Instagram account can use it to sign up for a Threads account and use the same username, password and account name.

CNN Business said Meta has a big advantage over Twitter because it has 2 billion global active Instagram users while Twitter has about 250 million active users.

Elon Musk, who bought Twitter not long ago, is not happy. His attorney sent a letter to Meta accusing the company of hiring many former Twitter employees and stealing Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information.

Man dies in freezer while hiding from police

A 34-year-old man in Minnesota who tried to hide from police officers was found dead in a chest freezer in a house.

Police said the freezer was an older model and had a latching mechanism on the outside only, which made it impossible for the man to get out by himself.

Police said the house was unoccupied and that the freezer was off at the time. They said the man, Brandon Lee Buschman, tried to open the freezer with a metal lawn ornament rod but he couldn’t open it.
