Jerry Claus sentenced 48 years in prison in Indiana
Jerry Claus, the Deaf former elementary teacher at the Indiana School for the Deaf who was fired in February 2021 after he was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor in a 2005 case in Ohio, was recently sentenced to 48 years in prison in Indiana in a different case.
Online records from the Indiana Department of Correction show that Claus (45) was convicted on two counts of child molesting in Hamilton County, Indiana on July 31, 2024. His earliest possible release date is in 2063.
So this means there are at least two different cases where Claus is accused of sexual misconduct with minors. One is in Ohio and the other is in Indiana. The Indiana case resulted in a conviction.
I previously did a news report about the Ohio case, where Claus allegedly became involved with a 13-year-old victim while Claus was 28. Because of this, Claus was charged and arrested in Indiana and extradited to an Ohio jail. This was in February 2021. This is why Claus was fired from ISD. Claus was released after posting a $20,000 bond and retained an attorney, who told WRTV News in Indianapolis that Claus denied doing anything wrong.
Now, as far as I understand, Claus was supposed to go through the criminal legal process for the Ohio case but he was arrested again in Hamilton County, Indiana in March 2023 in a different and separate case. He was charged with molesting a child under 14 years old.
Now, Claus is convicted in the Indiana case and will have to serve 48 years in prison. Because of that, his case in Ohio may be indefinitely delayed.
The victim in the Ohio case said she wants to see Claus go on trial but is not sure because he will be over 90 years old when he’s released. The victim said she’s concerned that Claus could get out early based on good behavior and do not want to see that happening.
