“Jeopardy!” contestant uses ASL

During last night’s episode of “Jeopardy!,” one of the contestants, who is hearing, cleverly used ASL to fingerspell a special message to his wife. Here is a short clip from “The U.S. Sun.”

The Sun said the contestant’s name is Jonathan Fox. Contestants typically stay silent and stare at the camera when they are being introduced, but Jonathan used ASL to send a message to his wife, Julie.

Jonathan is from Plymouth, Massachusetts. In an interview with “Plymouth Independent,” he explained that he wanted to do something special for his wife so he studied ASL the night before his appearance. He said he hopes that his wife, who is not fluent in ASL, can figure it out. So it’s a hearing couple who doesn’t use ASL who is now using ASL here. Really cool.

The Sun said Jonathan came in second place in the show.

Nice, ASL gain, that.
