GSD honors Stephanie Smith Albert by naming dorm after her

Georgia School for the Deaf (GSD) honored the late Stephanie Smith Albert, a Deaf woman who used to work at GSD as a guidance counselor, by naming a dormitory after her during their homecoming weekend on November 15.

Stephanie unexpectedly died in 2018. At the time, she was the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at NTID.

The dorm building used to be called Building 55. GSD wanted to rename the building and a voting process within the GSD community selected Stephanie as the one deserving of the honor.

Stephanie’s husband, Tim Albert, was invited to attend the naming ceremony for Albert Hall on November 15. Here is a video clip and an interview.

Tim Albert: It means a lot to me. I will never forget her legacy. She made an impact on students with her time. We remember her always smiling, happy, being loving and joyful. I loved our relationship. She had experiences as a counselor at various Deaf schools including GSD. Students looked up to her as a positive role model. It means a lot to me. I also told the Georgia School for the Deaf and the GSD Alumni Association “thank you” for recognizing her. She deserves it. It means a lot to Stephanie and her family and me as well.

Alex: Thank you so much, Tim Albert. What a beautiful way to honor Stephanie Smith Albert.
