Friday, November 13 Political News Briefs
Here is today’s political news briefs.
ABC, NBC, and CNN made a projection today that President Donald Trump won North Carolina, where he has a lead of about 70,000 votes, and that President-elect Joe Biden won Georgia, where he has a narrow lead of about 14,000 votes.
Arizona is officially a Biden victory because he leads by more votes than there are votes remaining to be counted — by 11,434 votes. Arizona is the closest race in the nation, and Georgia is the second closest. Georgia is doing a hand recount of all ballots.
Now Biden has 306 electoral college votes to Trump’s 232.
The Department of Homeland Security released a statement saying that the 2020 election was the most secure in U.S. history and said Americans should have confidence in the integrity of our elections.
There are several pro-Trump rallies planned in the D.C. area this weekend to protest voter fraud. President Trump said he might stop by to say hello. Trump said the 2020 election was rigged.
The Trump campaign had a lawsuit in Arizona to demand a review of ballots, but dropped the lawsuit today.
A judge in Michigan denied a lawsuit to block the certification of 2020 election results in the Detroit area. The judge also rejected a request for an independent audit. The lawsuit came rom two Republican poll workers who made allegations of fraud, but the judge said their interpretation of events on Election Day was incorrect and not credible.
The Pennsylvania secretary of state said she will not order a recount because Biden and other elections’ margins were more than a half percentage.
The White House is acting like President Trump will have a second term. The Sec. of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday that he is looking forward to a smooth transition to a second Trump administration. This may confuse world leaders on who is going to be in charge in 2021, but multiple world leaders have already congratulated Biden on winning the election. Today a spokesperson for the Chinese government congratulated Biden’s victory, saying “We respect the choice of the American people.”
Former President Barack Obama said in an interview that Trump and Republicans are going down a dangerous path for refusing to concede.
