Deaf UFC fighter Askar Askarov

There will be a deaf UFC fighter on the card of UFC Fight Night 205 in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday night. The fighter’s name is Askar Askarov, who is from the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. A profile on MMA News explained that Askarov won the Deaflympic gold medal for wrestling during the 2017 Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey. Askarov may get booed during the match because he is from Russia during a time that Russian forces are invading Ukraine. The UFC has not banned Russian athletes, which is similar to what the NHL, men’s tennis, or European soccer leagues have done — they have not barred individual Russian athletes.
