Deaf News: “CODA” film and Nyle’s gig with NBC
I have two quick Deaf news briefs.
“CODA” film with deaf actors Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant
The first one is about a movie titled “CODA” that is directed by a hearing woman named Sian Heder. This movie is about a 17 years old girl who is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and struggles between wanting to pursue music, but feels obliged to stay with her deaf family and help them run their fishing business. This movie features deaf stars like Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, and Daniel Durant. The CODA character is played by a hearing woman named Emilia Jones. The movie CODA is a part of the lineup for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. This is the sign name for the Sundance Film Festival. CODA will be a part of the lineup. Sundance will run through January 28th to February 3rd. According to the festival’s schedule, “CODA” will be shown on January 30th. You can look at the link for ticket options. Nyle DiMarco to work on NBC drama series based on deaf family
The second news is about Nyle DiMarco getting an opportunity to work with a NBC producer and two writers to develop a drama series named “Look at Me.” Deadline reported that this will be about a multi-generational deaf family, living under one roof, and their hearing daughter-in-law, and granddaughter who move in after a change in their circumstances. The drama series is inspired by DiMarco’s life. That is what we know so far since this is still developing. Once we find out when it will be featured on NBC, we will let you know. We hope that this drama series will give opportunities for deaf actors, writers, and crew.
