Deaf man killed by hit-and-run incident in Rochester

A 24-year-old deaf man named Anthony Trayner was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Rochester, New York on Saturday, August 20 about 3:30 a.m.

New York State Police said Trayner was walking on the westbound lane of the Inner Loop when he was struck by a westbound vehicle and the driver fled the scene. The Inner Loop is an expressway and there are no sidewalks for pedestrians.

Police said last week that they are following leads to try and find the suspect.

Trayner was from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Windsor Star interviewed a close friend of the Trayner family who explained that prior to the collision, Trayner attended a friend’s wedding in Rochester.

The friend explained that the wedding celebration continued through the night. Trayner was traveling with others in a vehicle on the expressway. The friend said someone in the car had a “difficult time,” which led to the car stopping and the person getting out of the car. The friend said Trayner got out to help the person before he was struck.
