Deaf artist’s work featured in Library of Congress

Here are two Deaf News Briefs.

A Deaf artist’s work is a part of a historical exhibition at the Library of Congress in D.C. called “Collecting Memories.”

The artist’ name is Jena Floyd, and you probably already know one of her famous works, the Starbucks ASL mug.

A part of the exhibit is a display of various artworks that were aimed at lifting the morale of the public during the Covid-19 pandemic. Floyd created a print that had a silhouette of the ASL sign for “continue” with the words, “keep going” written on the hands.

Floyd said she feels so honored to be a part of this historic exhibition.

Jena’s artwork and others were published in a book called “Collecting Memories: Treasures from the Library of Congress.”

If you’re in the D.C. area, the exhibition will be there until December 2025. A link with more information is in the description and transcript.

Book published about CSD Riverside’s historic football seasons

The second Deaf News brief is that a New York Times journalist and author, Thomas Fuller, released a book about the California School for the Deaf, Riverside’s football team and their historic 2021 and 2022 seasons, in which they reached their state conference championship games.

The book is titled, “The Boys of Riverside: A Deaf Football Team and a Quest for Glory.”

CSDR shared on their social media pages that they hosted a community event with Fuller as a special guest. He gave a presentation, did a Q&A session, and signed copies of the book.

If you want to check out the book, a link is in the description and transcript.

That’s the two Deaf News briefs for today.
