CSD Fremont teaching assistant arrested for alleged sexual assaults

CBS News Bay Area reported that police in Fremont have arrested a teaching assistant at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont named Brandon Duran (25) on suspicion of multiple sexual assaults.

According to a press release from Fremont Police, multiple juvenile victims, who are students at the school, came forward to report sexual assaults that occurred in various locations within Fremont and Livermore. Duran was linked to at least three separate incidents on July 4 and July 19, 2024.

Duran was arrested on Thursday and booked in a local jail on suspicion of various sexual crimes against a child and/or a minor. He is being held on a $190,000 bail and scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Based on social media posts, Duran used to be a student at CSD Fremont. I’ve reached out to the school.

The CBS report said detectives are looking for other potential alleged victims who may have had contact with Duran and anyone with additional information can contact Fremont Police.

*Here is a response from the California Dept. of Education on behalf of CSDF: "We can confirm that this staff member was immediately placed on administrative leave as soon as allegations of off-campus misconduct were received. Schools are sanctuaries for learning and must be safe environments for our students. The California Department of Education and California School for the Deaf have zero tolerance for abuse or misconduct by any employee and will continue to work in partnership with law enforcement. As this is an active investigation, all other questions should be directed to the Fremont Police Department, specifically to the FPD Public Information Officer: (510) 790-6802 or FremontPDPIO@fremont.gov."
