Trump arrested in Georgia
Former President Donald Trump surrendered to law enforcement in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday on charges of illegally scheming to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia.
A mug shot showed Trump with a tough facial expression. Trump has been arrested three times already earlier this year, but this case in Georgia is the first with a mug shot.
AP News said Trump’s campaign team swiftly seized on the image to fundraise, asking donors to support him because he is being “persecuted.”
Trump was released on a $200,000 bond and returned to his New Jersey home.
U.S. intelligence says “explosion” caused Prigozhin plane crash
AP News said their sources from the U.S. intelligence community believe that an intentional explosion caused the plane crash presumed to have killed the chief of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
The intelligence officials said Prigozhin was very likely targeted and that the explosion falls in line with Russian President Putin’s long history of trying to silence his critics.
If it was a targeted attack, then it is likely retaliation for Prigozhin’s rebellion against the Russian government in June.
Retired cop identified as gunman who killed 3
Local news in Orange County, California said a retired Ventura police sergeant was identified as the gunman who killed three people and wounded six others at a bar before being shot and killed by responding police officers.
His name was John Snowling and he worked as a cop from 1986 to 2014. He was going through a divorce and the first person he shot was his wife. She was hit in the face but survived the shooting and is recovering at a hospital. A woman who happened to be with Snowling’s wife was also shot and she died from her wound.
After Snowling shot the two women, he started shooting randomly at others inside and outside of the bar. He was stopped by responding cops who shot and killed him.

Almost 400 people still missing in Maui
Officials in Maui, Hawaii released a list of 388 names who are still missing after devastating wildfires hit the town of Lahaina. The list is “validated” and the FBI put the list together. Officials said they were releasing the names because they know it will help with the investigation. There is hope that some of the missing are alive. Officials have previously asked relatives of the missing to provide DNA samples so they can identify human remains. Officials said they may use cell phone data to find where the last known location of the missing.
At least 115 people have been confirmed dead and the wildfires are the deadliest in U.S. history.
Subway sells itself to Jimmy Johns & Arby’s owner
CNBC reported that Subway, the sandwich chain restaurant, has sold itself to a private equity firm called Roark Capital. That firm also owns Arby’s, Jimmy John’s, and Dunkin’.
The deal was worth almost $10 billion. It ends more than 50 years of private family ownership for Subway. The restaurant was founded in 1965 in Connecticut. Today, the restaurant has about 20,000 locations in the U.S.
