19 years old Deaf man from Oklahoma dies after hit and run

In Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a Deaf man named Dallas Lowry (19) died after a hit and run when he was riding his bike. Dallas just graduated from Oklahoma School for the Deaf a few weeks ago and he planned on going to college this fall for computer science.

On Thursday, June 10th, early in the morning, Dallas was riding his bike to work with his younger brother to work at Starbucks when he was hit by a car. Dallas was brought to the hospital and he was in a medically-induced coma but then passed away on Friday morning.

The accused driver has been identified as Kylah Pumphrey. In one of the news articles, it mentioned that the woman hit Dallas and left, but stopped about a half a mile away in a parking lot. The article says that the police could see that Kylah was shaken up and she didn’t have a driver’s license.

The report that Kylah has been arrested for not having a driver’s license and leaving the scene of an injury. One news article interviewed Dallas’ father Scott, and he responded to them that while he is feeling a lot of emotions, he does hope that Kylah is okay because she will be living with this for the rest of her life. Dallas signed up to be an organ donor and now his organs will help save eight lives.

Comment from Scott Lowry (Dallas’ father) to The Daily Moth

“Dallas touched so many lives. He didn’t shake hands, he was a hugger as he would say. He was always trying to make people smile. We have been showered with love and support from the deaf community, our home community, and the Starbucks family. He was a Barista for 3 years and was being considered to be a supervisor. We have been humbled, shocked, blessed to find out who he was outside of home. Honestly he was exactly the same just didn’t tell anyone the magic he was spreading every single day.”

His memorial service was on Wednesday, June 16th.

We, the Daily Moth, send our thoughts to Dallas’ family right now.
