Four dead, dozens injured in Birmingham mass shooting

Local news reported that on Saturday, four people were killed and 17 more injured in a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama. Police stated the incident occurred in one of the city’s most popular entertainment districts just after 11 p.m. local time. They believe multiple suspects fired into a large group of people gathered near Magnolia Avenue. More than 100 shell casings were recovered, and authorities suspect that at least one of the guns was equipped with illegal switches, converting it into a fully automatic weapon capable of discharging all bullets within seconds. Detectives believe the shooting was not random, stemming from an isolated incident in which multiple victims were caught in the crossfire. Police confirmed that one of the deceased is believed to be the intended target. A manhunt is currently underway for “multiple shooters,” and no one is in custody at this time.

Trump says he won’t run for president again if he loses in November

Former President Donald Trump stated that he doesn’t believe he would run for office again in four years if he loses the November election. In an interview with Sharyl Attkisson on her show “Full Measure,” which aired Sunday, Trump said, “No, I think that that will be, that will be it. I don’t see it at all,” when asked if he envisions himself running again after an unsuccessful presidential bid. He added, “I think that hopefully we’re going to be successful.” The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for clarification and additional comments on the former president’s remarks. There was no response from the Harris campaign regarding Trump’s statements.

Zelensky lands in US to discuss ‘victory plan’ with Biden

Ukrainian President Zelensky is currently on a week-long visit to the United States, which began with a stop at a Pennsylvania ammunition factory he visited on Sunday that supplies crucial munitions for Ukraine. He plans to present his “plan for victory” to President Biden and later to Congress, as well as to the two presidential candidates–Vice President Harris and former President Trump. Zelensky's victory plan focuses on three main elements: increasing military support through weapon donations, enhancing diplomatic efforts to encourage Russia to pursue peace, and implementing measures to hold Moscow accountable for its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In addition, he will address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday and Wednesday, before heading to Washington for further discussions on Thursday.

Lebanon reports at least 200 killed, 1k wounded in Israeli airstrikes

Lebanon’s health ministry has claimed that over 200 have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded in today’s Israeli airstrikes on the country, making it the deadliest day in Lebanon in nearly a year of conflict. The Israeli military warned Lebanese civilians to move away from Hezbollah sites before launching aerial attacks that it said struck more than 300 Hezbollah positions. They stated they would continue to monitor the situation to proactively further thwart attacks against Israeli territory. Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer stated that Hezbollah’s military actions, which included firing into Israel, have displaced over 60,000 Israelis from their homes. Mencer claimed that Hezbollah had not stopped attacking Israel “not for a single day” since October 8. He added: “No country can accept wanton rocketing of its cities, and Israel is doing precisely what any other country would do.” Israeli PM Netanyahu said Israel was not waiting for the threat to come; we’re pre-empting it.

Zimbabwe to cull 200 elephants to ease acute hunger

Zimbabwe and Namibia have announced plans to slaughter hundreds of wild elephants and other animals to feed hunger-stricken residents amid severe drought conditions in the southern African countries. Last Monday, Zimbabwe stated it would allow the killing of 200 elephants for their meat to be distributed among needy communities. In Namibia, more than 700 wild animals will be culled, including 83 elephants. Zimbabwean authorities indicated that the elephants will be taken from Hwange National Park, where the population has become unsustainable. Hwange currently has over 45,000 elephants but can sustainably support only about 15,000.
