Gallaudet University’s “The Bump” at the entrance is gone

If you have entered Gallaudet University’s campus before, you will know the “famous” bump right when you come from the Florida Avenue entrance. That bump is called “The Bump.” Now, there is no more bump.

“The Bump” became like one of Gallaudet University’s “signature” of knowing when you have arrived on campus. Many people have stories related to “The Bump.” Gallaudet University released an article written by Robert Weinstock about the famous bump. In that article, Weinstock explains that many people have their stories related to the bump and there is even an artwork about it. One of Gallaudet University’s alumna, Kaori Takeuchi, made “The Bump” into an art piece. We will show you the screenshot of the artwork from the article.

The reaction from the community such as alumnus, students, and even visitors- was mostly bummed because even if people had a variety of experiences with that entrance, “The Bump” did give people some memories to always remember and stories to share. However, there were also some people who were thrilled that “The Bump” is now gone.

In the article, it explains that the District of Columbia Department of Transportation has been working on improving pedestrian sidewalks, so because of that, it has impacted “The Bump” to be “fixed.” At the end of the article, Weinstock wrote that since “The Bump” is gone, there needs to be another “signature” to let people know that they are home.
