Alec Baldwin reaches settlement over fatal shooting

Alec Baldwin has reached a settlement with the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was shot and killed last year by a projectile from a prop gun that Baldwin was using as he was practicing a scene. The film is called “Rust.”

The settlement is to resolve a wrongful death lawsuit. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The film will resume production in January 2023. Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, will become an executive producer and receive a portion of the profits.

Matthew said “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident” and that the film will be a “tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

The film director Joel Souza, who was injured by the projectile, will return to the film.

Possible serial killer in Stockton, California

Police in Stockton, California said they are searching for a possible serial killer who may be responsible for six murders.

The first murder was a 40-year-old man who was shot and killed in Oakland on April 10, 2021. Six days later, a 46-year-old woman in Stockton was shot but survived.

There were no incidents until July of this year when a 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Stockton. In August, there were two fatal shootings in the same city. In September, there were two more fatal shootings, also in Stockton.

Stockton Police said they believe the murders are all linked due to “physical evidence” that they have, but they did not reveal what this evidence was. Police said ballistics tests showed the killings and the one attempted killing were linked.

Police released an image of a man who is a “person of interest.” The picture only shows a man with a thin build wearing a dark-colored coat and winter cap.

Police said all the six victims were fatally shot, were alone at the time they died, and that the murders happened at night or in the early morning.

There is a $125,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Aaron Judge hits 62nd home run

New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run on Tuesday night. He broke a record for the most home runs in the American League (AL).

The record is also considered the “clean” home run record —

if you don’t count the home run totals by Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, or Barry Bonds — because their careers were tainted with allegations of steroid use.

Judge said it is a “big relief” to reach the milestone and that it’s “been a great honor.”

There is some controversy on social media on the idea of a “clean” home run, with people saying Barry Bonds’ 73 home runs is the true record.

Judge himself said in the past that he views Bonds’ 73 home runs as the rightful single-season mark.

Elon Musk now agrees to buy Twitter for $44B

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has agreed to move forward with his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter.

If you recall, in April, Musk offered to buy the company but pulled out due to his concerns with the amount of fake / “bot” accounts on Twitter. That led to a lawsuit from Twitter that sought to force Musk to proceed with the purchase.

Musk was scheduled to face a deposition by Twitter’s lawyers in a few days but now that’s dropped because Musk is “back in” with the deal.

Yahoo! Finance explained that Twitter’s shareholders approved the sale to Musk during a special meeting in September, so it means that if Twitter agrees to go ahead with Musk, he will soon take control of Twitter.

Musk has previously said he wants to see more “free speech” on the platform and that he would restore Donald Trump’s suspended account.

Purdue student murdered, roommate charged

A student at Purdue University in Indianapolis was murdered in a campus residence hall and his roommate will be charged with murder.

The student who was killed is 20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda, who was a senior from Indianapolis studying data science.

His roommate who is the murder suspect is 22-year-old Ji Min Sha, an international student from Korea studying cybersecurity.

Police explained that Sha called 911 around 12:45 a.m. to alert police about the death. He was taken in custody a few minutes later. Police did not provide details of how Chheda was killed or how they determined that Sha was the killer.

NBC News said Purdue has about 50,000 students and that the last time there was a homicide on campus was in 2014.

There is a lot of buzz and jokes on social media about the Adult Happy Meals.
