Gas prices going down

Gas prices have started going down.

The AAA said gas prices are less than $4 in almost one out of five gas stations in the U.S., with the cheapest gasoline in the Southeast, Texas, and Oklahoma.

The national average gas price has fallen for 27 days straight, but is still very high at $4.52 a gallon.

Netflix loses almost 1M subscribers

Netflix said it lost almost one million subscribers in the second quarter.

NPR said it is the biggest subscriber loss in the company’s 25-year history. It still has over 220 million subscribers and is the world’s largest streaming service.

Netflix said it is now working on a new cheaper subscription tier that would include advertisements and would launch it in several areas in 2023.

U.S. House passes bill protecting marriage equality

The U.S. House passed a bill on Tuesday night to protect gay marriage rights and to prevent anyone from invalidating a marriage based on the race or sex of a couple.

The bill passed 267-157. All Democrats and 47 Republicans supported in favor for it, while the remaining 157 Republicans voted against it.

Democratic leaders said a federal law protecting gay marriage is necessary because the Supreme Court, in its recent ruling overturning Roe vs Wade, signaled that it could reconsider its 2015 decision on the right to gay marriage.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is unknown if it will pass.

Reuters explained that the bill would allow states to restrict gay marriage if the Supreme Court overturns its prior ruling on gay marriage, but these states would be required to recognize marriages that occurred in states where they remain legal.

Montana man attacks ex-girlfriend’s family

On Sunday night in Montana, a man rammed his pickup truck into his ex-girlfriend's family as they were walking by a road and then opened fire on them. The gunman’s name is Derick Madden.

The ex-girlfriend’s name is Christina Siau. She was on vacation with her older sister, Christy and her husband and their three children.

Madden crashed into a tree and then took out his shotgun and opened fire on the family, killing Christina’s brother-in-law David and his 18-month-old daughter McKenzie.

Madden ran out of ammunition and took out a knife to attack the ex-girlfriend, Christina. But she was able to fight back and kill Madden.

Christina and Christy (her sister) were critically injured and hospitalized. The other two children were able to run away and were uninjured.

Police said Madden had mental health issues. They didn’t describe how Christina killed him, but said, “She fought back and she won.”

Georgia probe targeting 16 fake Trump electors

Prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia (Atlanta area) said their criminal investigation on attempts to overturn the results of Donald Trump’s loss in Georgia in the 2020 election is now targeting 16 individuals who signed an electoral certificate that was fake and unofficial. That certificate was sent to the National Archives. The certificate hoped to overturn Trump’s loss.

Investigators said they have uncovered new evidence that changed the 16 people’s status from witnesses to targets — suggesting that they may face indictments.

Today a judge ordered Rudy Giuliani to testify in the Georgia investigation. Investigators consider him a key part of the Trump campaign’s multi-state plan to influence the results of the 2020 election.

She said she is asking for something that she would never want to ask — weapons. She said the weapons are needed to protect one’s home. She said, “While Russia kills, America saves, and you should know about it. We thank you for that.”

The U.S. has sent military aid to Ukraine 15 times and is currently working on its 16th.

CNBC said the U.S. has provided about $8 billion in military aid since February.
