Thousands of flights delayed by FAA outage
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had an outage in its system overnight and as a result, the FAA halted all flight departures from the U.S. at about 7 a.m. Over 4,000 flights were immediately delayed. The FAA lifted the ban at about 9 a.m.
The system outage concerns the FAA’s “Notice to Air Missions” system that provides safety information to flight crews. It provides alerts on hazards in the air or on the ground.
The FAA said they are investigating what caused the system outage. The chaos caused about 7,000 flight delays in total and over 1,000 flights to be canceled.
Elon Musk holds Guinness record for “worst loss"
The Guinness World Records organization announced that Elon Musk has broken a world record for the largest loss of personal fortune in history. Guinness said according to an estimate by Forbes, Musk has lost about $182 billion since November 2021… “largely due to the poor performance of Tesla’s stock.” Tesla’s stock value went down about 65% in 2022.
Guinness said the losses surpass the previous record of $58.6 billion, set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son in 2000.
Musk is still one of the world’s richest men despite the loss. He’s still got a lot of money left.
Man sprays water on homeless woman
There is a viral video that shows an older white man casually using a garden hose to spray water on a homeless woman in San Francisco. Here is the clip.

The woman was heard yelling, but the man did not care, continuing to spray the woman. The man was identified as Collier Gwin and he owns and runs an art gallery.
Gwin commented that the homeless woman wouldn’t move and was yelling and out of control so he decided to use the hose. He did not show any remorse in his remarks and claimed that he tried to help the woman in the past.
Police said they received a report of a possible assault and talked with the two individuals and that both declined further police action. Police said city workers referred the woman for follow-up support.
Gwin’s art gallery received a ton of negative reviews and its social media pages were shut down. Gwin said he has received many death threats and was confronted by angry locals.

Former Trump Org. CFO sentenced 5 months in prison
Allen Weisselberg, who was a long-time CFO for the Trump Organization, was sentenced to five months in jail for his role in a tax fraud scheme. Weisselberg will serve his term on Rikers Island. He is 75 years old.
CNN explained that he pleaded guilty last August to 15 felonies in a deal with prosecutors.
Man murdered by 8 teen girls in Toronto
Police in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) said a 59-year-old man named Ken Lee was killed by a group of eight teenage girls who “swarmed” him in mid-December. Lee died of stab wounds. He was homeless.
Police said the teen girls were between 13 and 16 years old. They first met online and then gathered in person in the downtown area. Police said the girls may have targeted Lee because he was carrying alcohol. The girls are now facing second-degree murder charges. Their identities have not been released because they are minors.
A police official said he’s been in policing for 35 years and he thought he saw it all but that this incident was alarming and shocking.
Girl finds megalodon tooth on Maryland beach
A nine-year-old girl found an ancient megalodon shark tooth when she was wading on a beach in Maryland on Christmas Day.
BBC said the megalodon lived in seas worldwide until it died out about 3.5 million years ago. They grew to be over 60 feet long.
The girl’s name is Molly Sampson. The tooth she found was 5 inches long. Her family are avid fossil hunters.
