Terror suspect with truck kills 10 in New Orleans

A man killed at least 10 people by ramming a truck into crowds of people in New Orleans’ Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Pictures of the scene showed multiple people with serious injuries on a street with the truck crashed into a boom lift.

The driver was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who is a U.S. citizen. He died in a shootout with police officers.

Police said the suspect rented the truck, a Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck, through Turo. The suspect had an ISIS flag and packed explosives in an ice chest in the truck.

There will be more information as the investigation unfolds and I’ll provide updates tomorrow. It’s a truly terrible way to start the new year in New Orleans.

Ukraine halts Russian gas supply to Europe

Ukraine’s government said it halted the transport of Russian gas to Europe through its territory. There was a deal between Ukraine and Russia and when it expired, Ukraine said it halted the supply for national security reasons. CNN said Europe has already drastically cut gas imports from Russia so the impact won’t be as severe. But one region in Moldova, called Transdniestria, has cut heating and hot water supplies to households due to the halt in energy supplies. There are about 450,000 residents in the region.

Trump plans to attend Jimmy Carter funeral

Donald Trump, at a New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago resort, said he plans to attend the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, who recently died at age 100.

Trump was a frequent critic of Carter when he was campaigning, but after his death, has commended him for working hard to make America a better place.

Trump said he believes that 2025 will be a great year. When he was asked about the possibility of a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, he said, “we’ll see what happens” and said Hamas better let the Israeli hostages come back soon.
