It is Wednesday, February 10. Here are today’s top news briefs.
Here are updates with the shooting at a healthcare clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota on Tuesday morning.
Gregory Ulrich (67) was arrested and accused of shooting five people, killing one.
Police said Ulrich had a history of being unhappy with the health care he received.
Police said they received a 911 call that there was someone shooting inside of the Allina Health Clinic just before 11 a.m. When officers arrived, they said the scene was horrible looking. Police said they found suspicious packages but couldn’t confirm if they were explosives or something else.
“Heavy” reported that there is a police report from 2018 that says Ulrich would make many calls to his former doctor and make threats of a mass shooting and blow things up as revenge for being tortured by doctors. Ulrich had health issues related to back surgeries.
The clinic said their hearts are broken and they are helping police with the investigation into the shooting.
At the time of writing this news, the identities of the victims have not been released. One died at a hospital, three are in critical but stable condition, and one has been discharged.
NBA team Dallas Mavericks is no longer playing the national anthem before home games. Owner Mark Cuban told ESPN that it does not plan to bring back the tradition in future games.
The anthem has been a controversial topic ever since former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to sit down or kneel during pregame ceremonies to protest racial injustice and police brutality. In 2017 President Donald Trump criticized players who protested the anthem.
During the resurgent Black Lives Matter movement over the summer, the NBA embraced the movement by printing the slogan on basketball courts. The NBA commissioner made it clear that they would not enforce a rule that required players to stand for the anthem.
This afternoon, the NBA released a statement saying all teams must play the national anthem once fans start coming back to the games.

The New York Times reported that Fulton County (Atlanta area) District Attorney Fani Willis has initiated a criminal investigation on former President Trump’s attempts to influence the election in Georgia, which includes a phone call he made to Georgia Sec. of State Raffensperger. In that phone call, Trump refused to accept Raffensperger’s exhortations that his office had done everything to make sure the election was accurate and free of fraud. Trump asked for a “break” and for Georgia officials to find 11,000 votes. The Times said the investigation focuses on violations of Georgia law that prohibits the solicitation of election fraud, making false statements to state and local government bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office, and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election’s administration.
SpaceX has been developing a new satellite internet system called Starlink and today they started accepting $99 refundable preorders for internet service. SpaceX has sent up thousands of satellites in space and will continue to send them — they have FCC approval to send about 11,000 satellites. To connect to Starlink, you will need to install a satellite dish and have a Wi-Fi router sent from the company, which costs $499. Then the internet service will be $99 a month. The service is not yet available worldwide — SpaceX said they hope for near global coverage by the end of 2021 or in 2022. This internet service would be beneficial for those who live in rural or remote areas, or for countries that do not have a strong internet infrastructure in place. The internet speeds are between 50 to 150 Mbps but are projected to improve.
Many people on the internet are laughing at a Zoom session of a hearing in western Texas in which an attorney named Rod Ponton found his face covered with a cat filter and unable to turn it off. Here is a video clip that is interpreted by Kelly Kurdi with the support of DPAN.TV.
That’s hilarious. Thank you for interpreting with a cat face filter. That’s a great prop to use.
This is what the attorney looks like behind the kitten filter. He said he figured out how to turn off the filter after about a minute and the hearing went on as normal.
Today the prosecutors in Trump’s impeachment trial made their opening arguments and showed video clips. The trial is still going on at the time I’m signing this news, so I will provide a full recap of today’s proceedings tomorrow.
That’s all for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light.
