VOCA’s “A Raisin in the Sun” performances; ABC/Disney axes production of CSDR football season
Here are two Deaf News briefs.
VOCA presents “A Raisin in the Sun” performances in D.C.
The first is that there is a BIPOC Deaf-led production of “A Raisin in the Sun” that is set to open tonight at the Atlas Performing Arts on H Street in D.C., close to Gallaudet University.
The production features an African-American Deaf, HoH, and CODA cast and brings a perspective of Black Deaf culture and both ASL and BASL.
There will be daily performances until July 2 with the exception of June 26 and 27. Tickets cost between $30 to $40.
The play is presented by the nonprofit organization VOCA Visionaries of the Creative Arts. It is co-directed by Michelle Banks and Nayte Paxton. Its tagline is, “What happens to a dream deferred within the Black Deaf family?”
If you’re in the D.C. area and would like to see the performance, the link to tickets and more information is in the description and transcript.

ABC/Disney drops production of CSD Riverside football story
“Deadline” reported that the plan to turn the inspiring story of CSD Riverside’s successful football season in 2021 into a Disney+ series is not moving forward. The series was supposed to star Troy Kotsur as the team’s coach.
Deadline said, “After several months in production, the project from ABC Signature and Disney Branded Television was shuttered earlier this year as a part of the parent company’s massive wave of cuts.”
