U.S. Attorney reaches settlement for deaf hospital patient

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said it has reached a settlement with a Kansas medical facility to resolve allegations that the hospital failed to reasonably accommodate a deaf patient by not providing a sign language interpreter in violation of the ADA.

The medical facility is Prime Healthcare Services-Providence, LLC. It is located in Kansas City, Kansas.

The deaf individual had a five-day stay at a hospital and was not able to effectively communicate with the medical team.
