Two videos of Deaf people affected by Israel-Hamas war

I want to share two videos of deaf people who are affected by the Israel-Hamas war.

The first is a video interview by Ziv Lotan with an Israeli Deaf person named Rinat Ram, who was born and raised in the kibbutz of Nir Oz. This community was destroyed by the Hamas attack on October 7 with many people murdered and kidnapped.

Lotan and Ram entered the kibbutz with special permission and surveyed the destruction. The video shows that many homes were burned. Ram said one of the victims was a hard of hearing woman named Mergit who died when their home was burned. Her body was found in an embrace with her partner.

Ram showed her parents’ home, which was not burnt but it was damaged with items strewn all over. Her parents survived the attack and are safe. Ram said she knew many of those who were murdered and kidnapped and that it’s heartbreaking.

The video has Hebrew and English subtitles. The link to the YouTube video is in the description and the comments.

The second video is of a married Palestinian Deaf couple who lives in Gaza. It was posted on Instagram by the Palestine Red Crescent.

The names of the Deaf couple aren’t mentioned. The husband said they are inside the Al-Quds Hospital — in the northern part of Gaza — because their home was destroyed and they needed refuge from the continuous shelling.

The wife said their children cannot sleep due to the constant sounds of shelling and that life is very hard with water not being available and many road closures.

The video shows emergency workers carrying injured people on stretchers as civilians look on.

The video has English subtitles and the link is in the description and the comments.

Clearly, we see that Deaf people in Israel and Gaza have had their lives turned upside down by the conflict in the region.
