It is Tuesday, September 6. Here are today’s top stories.

Body found of abducted teacher/jogger

On Friday morning in Memphis, a 34-year-old teacher named Eliza Fletcher was jogging outside at about 4 a.m. when she was kidnapped by a man, who forced her into his SUV before driving off.

Police arrested a suspect, a 38-year-old man named Cleotha Abston, over the weekend and announced this morning that they found the deceased body of Fletcher in an area about 7.5 miles away from where she was kidnapped. Her body was in the back of a vacant duplex apartment.

Fletcher was a kindergarten teacher. She leaves behind a husband and two young children.

Abston served a prison sentence for aggravated kidnapping over 20 years ago. He is now charged with murder and other related charges in connection to Fletcher’s death.

Canadian police searching for stabbing suspect

Two brothers are accused of stabbing at least 28 people, 10 fatally, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan on Sunday morning.

Police said the stabbings happened at 13 different locations around the James Smith Cree Nation, an Indigenous community, and nearby towns.

The brothers’ names are Damien (31, black shirt) and Myles (30, blue shirt) Sanderson.

Damien’s deceased body was found on Monday afternoon near the stabbing sites. He became the 11th person who died in this case.

Police said Damien’s wounds were not self-inflicted and have not determined a cause of death. It is possible that Myles killed his brother.

Myles is still at large at the time of signing this news. Police believe he is somewhere around the provincial capital of Regina.

News reports said Myles had a history of violence and substance addiction. The stabbings is one of the deadliest mass killings in Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said he was shocked and devastated and ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff.

Judge sides with Trump by granting special master

On Monday, federal judge Aileen Cannon granted Donald Trump’s request to bring in a special master to review documents the FBI seized from his Mar-a-Lago home.

It is a victory for Trump’s side, at least for now, because now the FBI / Department of Justice will have to stop investigating the documents until the special master, who will be an outside legal expert, comes in and decides which documents the FBI cannot look at due to attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

The DOJ said it has already reviewed all documents and separated which ones were privileged.

The judge said she made the decision because the circumstances are “unprecedented” so there needs to be a “brief pause to allow for neutral, third-party review to ensure a just process with adequate safeguards.”

The judge allowed a separate assessment from the U.S. intelligence community to continue. This is to check on the potential risks of Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified information. That review can go on.
