Kangaroo kills Australian man
In southwest Australia, police said a kangaroo killed a 77-year-old man who may have been keeping the animal as a pet.
A relative of the man found him with serious injuries. Police said they shot and killed the kangaroo because it was preventing paramedics from reaching the man. The man died at the scene.
It is the first time in over 80 years that a kangaroo killed a human in Australia.
Michigan man kills wife, dog; injures daughter
Police in Walled Lake, Michigan said a 53-year-old man named Igor Lanis shot and killed his wife and family dog, and shot and injured his 25-year-old daughter. News reports said the man may have been driven to violence partly because of his belief in the QAnon conspiracy.
Police said they got a 911 call at about 4:11 a.m. on Sunday from the daughter, who said she was just shot by her father. When police pulled up at the home, they said they saw Lanis come out of the front door with a shotgun and shoot at them. Two police officers returned fire and killed Lanis.
The daughter was rushed to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery to treat severe gunshot wounds to her back and legs. She is now in stable condition. The bodies of Lanis’ wife, Tina, and the family dog were found dead inside of the home.
Lanis’ younger daughter was not at home at the time of the shootings. She told the Detroit News that after Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, her father became hooked into QAnon conspiracy theories online and slowly changed into an angry and fearful person.
Police did not give a motive for the shooting and said there is an active investigation.
Sen. Graham proposes national abortion ban at 15 weeks
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) introduced a bill that would put a nationwide ban on abortion after 15 weeks. There are exceptions for rape, incest, or risks to the mother’s health.
The senator said if Republicans take back the House and the Senate after the 2022 election, he is confident there will be a vote on the bill.
News analysts said abortion will be an important issue for voters during the midterm elections, especially after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in the summer.
The White House said the senator’s bill is out of step with what Americans believe.

DOJ subpoenas over 30 people in January 6 investigation
News reports said in recent days, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued subpoenas to over 30 people associated with former president Donald Trump in relation to the DOJ’s criminal investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
Among those subpoenaed are Trump’s former campaign manager, former campaign CFO, and former deputy chief of staff. The DOJ is seeking either documents or testimony or possibly both.
The investigation is looking for information on schemes to send fake electors, fundraising efforts, and groups that organized rallies on January 6.
CBS News said FBI personnel served several of the subpoenas and in some instances executed search warrants that allowed them to seize individuals’ cell phones.
What this means is that the DOJ’s probe into potential illegal activity related to overturning the 2020 election is heating up. This is a separate investigation from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago classified documents issue.
Suns owner suspended over racist remarks, misconduct
The NBA said it has suspended Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver for one year and fined him $10 million after an investigation found he used racist language and treated female employees differently compared to male employees.
The investigation found that Sarver used the n-word at least five times, made many sex-related comments in the workplace, and made inappropriate comments about the physical appearance of female employees and other women.
Sarver also owns the WNBA team Phoenix Mercury and he will be barred from attending either the Suns or the Phoenix games or any of the teams’ activities for a year.
Sarver said in a statement that although he disagrees with some of the findings from NBA’s investigation, he apologizes for his words and actions that offended their employees.
