Pfizer said its Covid-19 vaccine generated $3.5 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2021. The pharmaceutical company earned a total of $14.6 billion in the first three months, but the vaccine was the biggest source of revenue and profits. Last year, when the pandemic was raging and vaccine development was just beginning, Pfizer was the only company that decided to not seek federal funding so it could move faster and be able to generate profits. The other companies, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Moderna, received federal funds and made a commitment to earn no profits. The vaccines are free for all Americans, but taxpayer funds were used to order the vaccines from the companies.

On Monday in the Louisiana-Mississippi border area, a 3-month-old baby boy named La’Mello Parker died after his father, who was a murder suspect, was killed in a hail of gunfire from police officers.

The suspect, Eric Derrell Smith, was pursued by police officers because he was suspected of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, who was the mother of the baby, and her adult nephew, before kidnapping the baby boy.

Smith took the baby with him and drove from Baton Rouge to Biloxi in a blue car. There were over 20 police vehicles in pursuit.

The chase ended when the car stopped on a median. A news video showed multiple police officers shooting at the blue car. The baby was injured and died this morning at a hospital.

Police officers were aware there was a baby in the vehicle, but said Smith fired upon them. There will be an autopsy on the baby to determine the exact cause of death.

Top House Republican Kevin McCarthy (Calif) said there is a growing number of Republicans who feel that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo) cannot maintain her leadership role within the party after she took to Twitter yesterday to slam Donald Trump for continuing to spread the “BIG LIE” that the 2020 election was stolen.

McCarthy told Fox News that Republicans need to work together and carry out the same message in order to win back the majority.

Cheney’s spokesperson said the issue is whether the Republican Party will “perpetuate lies about the 2020 election and attempt to whitewash what happened on Jan. 6.”

ABC News said there could be a vote by House Republicans to replace her position as House Republican Conference Chair.

President Joe Biden said he has a new goal for Covid-19 vaccinations — for 70% of adults to have at least one dose by July 4. NBC News reported that the Biden administration wants to change how it allocates vaccines among states by moving unused doses from certain states to other states that have a higher demand. They also want to require all retail pharmacies receiving vaccine doses from the federal government to offer walk-up vaccinations that don't require an appointment and send FEMA mobile vaccination units.
