Man charged with stalking Caitlin Clark

A 55-year-old man from Texas was charged with stalking college basketball and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark after he allegedly sent her threats and sexual messages through social media.

Prosecutors in Indiana said they saw that the suspect sent many messages to Clark on X (formerly Twitter) in recent weeks. Law enforcement traced the most recent messages to an IP address at a hotel in Indianapolis and was concerned because the suspect is a Texas resident. Police then went to the hotel on Jan. 8 and questioned the suspect, Michael Lewis. He said his posts and messages were just a joke and a fantasy. Police said they told him to stop with the posts, but he continued.

Police said Clark said she felt fearful for her safety, especially after Lewis went to Indiana from Texas.

Lewis was arrested and charged on Sunday. He faced a judge today and disrupted the court proceedings several times by talking. The judge assigned a public defender for Lewis and ordered him held on a $50,000 bail and to stay away from Indianapolis basketball facilities and to not have any contact with Clark.

Special counsel reports on Trump and Biden

Today, there are news stories about two different special counsels with the Department of Justice who have been investigating Donald Trump’s election interference case and the Hunter Biden taxes/firearms case.

Jack Smith, who tried to prosecute Trump on charges of defrauding the U.S., said in a report that was released today that he believes Trump could have been convicted if he faced a trial. The trial never happened because Trump won the 2024 election.

David Weiss, who investigated Hunter Biden for six years before he was pardoned by his father and president Joe Biden, criticized Joe Biden for calling the investigation politically motivated. Weiss said his investigation was fair.

Both cases are now shuttered with Trump’s imminent return to the White House and Hunter a free man.

Israel-Gaza ceasefire deal in “final stages”

International news reports said Israel and Hamas are very close to reaching a ceasefire and hostage agreement. The proposed deal would see the release of 33 living hostages currently held in Gaza during a 42-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. The deal would see Israel enforce a buffer zone around Gaza and allow Palestinian civilians to return to northern Gaza.

News reports said even though a peace deal was near, Israeli airstrikes were pounding Gaza. At least 61 people were killed in Gaza over the past 24 hours, according to Gazan authorities, including multiple women and children.
